    How ratings work

Every match you play at Padel Haus helps us build a fair, up-to-date picture of your level. Your rating shows how you stack up against other Padel Haus players, and lets you watch yourself improve as you play more sessions. Here's how it works, in plain terms.

    Everyone starts at 2.00

It's a neutral starting point, not a judgement of your game. Your rating then moves towards your real level as you play.

Each round starts with two pair averages

Each round, we calculate the average rating of your pair and the average rating of your opponents' pair. Those two numbers are what we compare.

    Example (made-up numbers)

How a match changes your rating

Your rating moves based on one question: did you win more of the games than we expected? Our sessions are played in the Mexicano format with tennis points, and every match is a total of four games.

    First, an expectation

Using those two averages, we work out how many of the games each pair should win. A stronger pair is expected to win more.

Expected split of the four games in a match.

    Then, the real result

Every game counts, so a win, a draw or a loss can each raise or lower your rating, depending on how it compares with what we expected. Here's the same match, with four ways it could end for your pair.

    • Win, 3–1Far better than expected.
      Big rise
    • Draw, 2–2Not a win, but better than expected.
      Small rise
    • Loss, 1–3A loss, but just as expected.
      Little change
    • Loss, 0–4Worse than expected.
      Drop

Each filled square is a game your pair won. The line marks what we expected.

This repeats for every round of a session. By the end of the session, the rating changes from each round are added together into your total for that session.

    Finding your level

Every new player starts with a calibration phase. Early on, each match counts for more while we pin down your level. The more you play, the smaller the steps and the steadier your rating.

Example only. While we're calibrating, your true level could be anywhere in a wide range. The more you play, the narrower it gets.

    Your status

Your status shows how well we know your level.

    Calibrating

    New here. Expect bigger swings.

    Settling

    Getting steadier and more reliable.

    Established

Moves slowly and reflects your level well.

Your status grows with the sessions you play, not with how well you play. It also decides where you appear on the leaderboards, explained below.

    The leaderboards

All players' rating performances are ranked on our leaderboards. They are updated every time a new Padel Haus ranked session is saved in our database. Your status decides where you appear.

    • CalibratingProvisional board. No rank number yet, just how many sessions to go.
    • SettlingRanked board. You get a rank, placed by rating.
    • EstablishedRanked board. Your place reflects a steady, reliable rating.

Example only. These players and numbers are made up.

Keep playing and climb the ranks

Play, improve and rise through the leaderboard. Every session is a fresh chance to make your mark, so enjoy the friendly competition and watch your name rise.

Our rating system is in beta

We're still fine-tuning ratings and will keep improving them with your feedback. If yours doesn't feel right yet, please be patient. It gets more accurate the more you play.

Not the same as other rating apps

Padel Haus ratings come only from our own sessions, on our own scale, so they can't be compared directly with other apps or clubs. A 3.00 here may not mean a 3.00 elsewhere.

    Keep it fun!

A rating is a fun way to keep score, not a verdict on you as a player. Stay competitive, but remember we're all here to play, laugh and have a good time.

Ratings are recalculated from every recorded match.
